A quiet 3 days meditation retreat in Denmark, with the norwegian monk Ajahn Nitho and co-organized with The Buddhist Society of Norway. This will be the first retreat maybe ever, that a nordic monk from early buddhism teaches a retreat in Denmark. It’s also the first retreat the society is hosting.

The retreat takes place the 12th - 15th of November at the idyllic Inspiration Center Danmark in Maribo, in the southern part of Denmark. There is space for 25 participants. The retreat will consist of teachings, guiding, Q&A, private interviews, and lots of time for own practice.

All teaching will be held in english, and Ajahn Nitho can furthermore understand danish as well as offer teachings in norwegian to individuals.

Single-room for all for maximum support for meditation with shared bathrooms. Welcome to everyone whether completely new to meditation or with experience!

The venue

A warm and welcoming atmosphere.

With the venue in Maribo’s comfortable surroundings and calming atmosphere, it sets an idyllic scene for our retreat.

THE VENUE. We rent the whole place, so we have access to all rooms and outdoor areas for the ideal conditions for learning, practising comfortably and development in meditation.

ACCOMMODATION. Everyone gets a single room, with shared bathrooms. Dining hall, big meditation hall and sofa areas for those who wish to ‘’hygge’’ with a book and a warm cup.

FOOD. The retreat center makes delicious vegetarian food as well as baking their own sourdough bread. There will be filling breakfast and lunch, as well as a light evening snack.

OBS: If you due to health reasons need a more filling meal in the evening or certain foods, please bring these along yourself.

The teacher

About Ajahn Nitho

Ajahn Nitho

Norwegian forest monk, born 1970 on the west coast. Educated at the University of Bergen and the Norwegian School of Economics, he worked as a CFO for several years before travelling to Australia in 2007 to ordain under Ajahn Brahm. Full bhikkhu ordination in 2009.

He trained for more than ten years in Australia and made several practice stays with Ajahn Ganha in Thailand. He returned to Norway and co-founded Den Norske Buddhistforening (DNBF) in 2021. He is the spiritual director of DNBF and will lead our first retreat in November 2026.

His teaching is simple, warm, and direct. He is one of the few teachers in the English-speaking forest tradition network who teach regularly in Scandinavia.

How to get there

Transportation.

Participants must provide their own transportation. We can help to coordinate lift sharing between participants for those who wish.

From Copenhagen Airport or Copenhagen Central Station, a train goes to Maribo, typically changing in Nykøbing Falster. From Maribo Station to Inspiration Center Danmark there is just about 4 kilometers. A bus goes from the station that stops just outside of the retreat centre.

If one is getting there by car, the address is Hunseby Kirkevej 13, 4930 Maribo. There is parking on site.

Pricing

What it costs.

The price is 3445,- DKK

The date is Thursday 12th to Sunday the 15th of November 2026. The price includes accommodation in terms of private rooms, food and teachings for three whole days.

The price covers only expenses relating to the retreat. Neither volunteers nor the instructor get any payment to hold this retreat.

Registration is opening soon, and runs via DNBF's website. Minimum age for participants are 18 years old, unless otherwise confirmed with the instructor.
