The society behind it all.
The Danish Buddhist Society was founded on 29 July 2026 at a founding general assembly at Skårupøre on Fyn. The society is non-profit and non-commercial: it owns itself, nobody earns money from it, and every krone goes to the purpose.
The purpose is set out in section 3 of the statutes: to further the Buddha's teaching in theory and practice, with particular focus on morality, meditation and wisdom, and to make teaching and practice accessible to everyone. In the longer term the society is to establish Buddhist monasteries and a retreat centre in Denmark, and in time seek recognition as a religious community.

What is on the way.
The founding is a foundation, not a goal. The next steps are:
- The retreat in November 2026 with Ajahn Nitho, the society's first own event.
- Bank account and payment. The society's account at Fynske Bank is on its way. After that we open for payment of the fee and donations by MobilePay, and later card.
- The first ordinary general assembly, which under the statutes is held before the end of March 2027. All members are invited directly by email.
- Regular meditation evenings and a sutta study group, online to begin with, together with our sister societies.
- Danish translations of selected texts and talks, as volunteers come forward.
