Bhante Sujato

Australian monk, born Anthony Best, formerly a rock musician. Ordained in Thailand in 1994, trained at Wat Pah Nanachat and three years at Bodhinyana. He founded Santi Forest Monastery in 2003, which he later donated to become a bhikkhuni vihara.

He is co-founder of SuttaCentral (suttacentral.net) in 2005, and has translated all four primary Pāli Nikāyas into modern, public-domain English. If you are reading suttas online, you are most likely reading his work.

He visited DNBF in 2024 for a retreat at Venabu and a weekend in Oslo, and is a regular voice in our network on the textual and historical grounding of early Buddhism.
